Ethical Considerations and the Squares of Emotion
This four-hour BACB-CEU training provides a comprehensive analysis of the ethical considerations inherent in assessing, teaching, and responding to emotional behavior through the Squares of Emotion framework. Participants learn how each level of the Squares—valence, inside/outside detection, intensity, multiplicity, values, and social inclusion—intersects with the BACB Ethics Code. The training emphasizes how ethical decision-making is strengthened when emotional states are understood as contextual variables that alter assent, safety, instructional pacing, rapport, and treatment integrity. Across the Squares Levels 1–6, caregivers develop the competencies needed to identify, label, and respond to emotional cues while simultaneously teaching these same skills to their clients in developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive ways.
